Souther Pines Golf Hole 14

Comments - The Southern Pines Golf and Country Club is owned by the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge 1692.  Routed over rolling terrain, it can be challenging for golfers of every skill level.  As a classic layout, there are few forced carries of any great length, and many greens are open in front to allow for the bump-and-run style that was characteristic when the course was built in 1923.  As a mature course, Southern Pines Golf and Country Club is especially lovely in the Spring when the azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom.  Traditionally routed at the time, it has a lovely half-way house at the junction of several holes.  Plans are afoot to restore many of the original features of the course that were lost over time through previous "reworkings." This project will include total fairway re-seeding, bunker restoration, and green structuring.

Located in Southern Pines and adjacent to the Village of Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Carthage, Whispering Pines, and Foxfire Village, the Southern Pines Golf and Country Club is a must play for the vacationing golfer.  It is rare to find a Donald Ross course in such original condition, where no re-routing, no housing, and little re-working has affected the course in its 80 year history.  Southern Pines Golf and Country Club is a walker's delight. Free from outside intrusions, Donald Ross's tight routing insures that relaxing afternoon rounds can be easily walked in three hours. Southern Pines Golf and Country Club is an ideal winter course. The sandy soil drains well while winter stretches the course and makes it play more like Ross intended. However, regardless of the time of year, when in the Pinehurst area, head straight for Southern Pines Golf and Country Club - you will leave more invigorated than when you arrived.
