The Kiawah Island Two-Man Championship-February 24-27, 2007
amateurgolf.com and Kiawah Island Golf Resort are offering amateur golfers a chance to get an early jump on the 2007 tournament season with the Kiawah Island Two Man Championship – played over three courses on Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina, with the final round being contested on the famous Ocean Course, home of the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2007 Senior PGA Championship and the 2012 PGA Championship

amateurgolf.com has been organizing serious tournaments for over five years primarily at west coast destinations such as Monterey and San Diego in California, and Bandon Dunes, Oregon. Our Two Man Links Championship at Bandon Dunes, attracts a strong National field each year.

”Kiawah Island is one of the country’s top golf destinations, and after a successful start with last year’s event there, I couldn’t wait to bring it back,” said amateurgolf.com Founder Pete Wlodkowski. “I am extremely pleased to partner with The Kiawah Island Golf Resort on this event just months before it host the Senior PGA Championship.”

Play will begin on the Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point. Turtle Point has hosted numerous championships including the 1987, 1992 and 2006 Carolinas Amateur and 1990 PGA Cup. Jack Nicklaus renovated Turtle Point in 2000. The following day, play continues on the Fazio-designed Osprey Point. Osprey Point was host to the 2000 Eastern Regional Club Professional Championship. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, February 27, at The Ocean Course, designed by Pete Dye and made famous around the world with the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches. The Ocean Course is the 3rd-ranked public course in the United States according to GOLF magazine.

The format of the event is 54 holes of best-ball stroke play with Scratch, Senior, and limited-handicap Net Divisions. Entry fees start at under $1,195 per player, including lodging, prizes, a tournament dinner, and more. As in previous years, participants will play one round each on The Ocean Course, (site of the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches, the 2007 Senior PGA Championship and the 2012 PGA Championship), Turtle Point, Osprey Point and Cougar Point. The entry fee also includes four nights’ accommodations in a three-bedroom villa with daily housekeeping, daily breakfast on tournament days, an opening banquet at Mingo Point, daily scoring parties and an awards luncheon, as well as prizes and purses for the top net and gross teams. Professionals will also compete for a separate purse to be distributed among the top stroke-play finishers.

In addition, contestants arriving early can take advantage of reduced rates on practice rounds on all of the tournament courses including the world-famous Ocean Course.

“We anticipate another exciting tournament contested on four of the south’s greatest resort courses,” said Roger Warren, President of Kiawah Island Golf Resort. “This event is very popular with the field limited to 64 teams.”
