Patton, Nelson Tied Entering Final Round of Tarheel Tour's Eagle Chase Classic

MARSHVILLE, N.C. -  By Craig Distl - Chris Patton, the 1989 U.S. Amateur champion, shot a seven-under 65 Wednesday to move into a first-place tie with Drew Nelson in the Tarheel Tour's Eagle Chase Classic at Eagle Chase Golf Club.
Patton had a blistering 29 on the front nine that included an eagle on the first hole and four straight birdies on holes 6-9. He played the back nine in even par and stands at 12-under 132. Nelson, son of two-time PGA Championship winner Larry Nelson, birdied two of his last four holes en route to a 68 that leaves him at 132.
Charlotte's David Siegel moved into third place at 135 thanks to a 68 that included eight birdies and four bogeys. Augusta's Scott Parel is alone in fourth at 136.
The cut was set at two-under-par 142, reducing the field of 57 to 21 for Thursday's final round, which begins at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public.
